Analysis of the effect of light rail tunnel mining on the foundations of a bridge over the National Railways tracks using 3D analysis

The challenge:

Examining the future impact of mining a pair of light rail tunnels on the foundations of a vehicle bridge over the National Railways.

The mining tunnels will be carried out at an unknown stage.

The solution:

Construction of a three-dimensional finite element model (Plaxis 3D) that simulates the planned execution stages and examines their effect on the bridge.

The results of the model made it possible to maintain the design of the existing bridge without making changes that would entail high costs and damage the engineering quality of the bridge.
